- Twisted Cork & Taphouse Grand Opening
Owners Bob and Shannon Frediani and staff of the Twisted Cork & Taphouse were very pleased with the huge turnout for their open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on January 6, at 1:00. Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce spearheaded the ribbon cutting ceremony with Manson Chamber of Commerce welcoming Bob and Shannon to Manson. Bob grew up in Great Falls, Montana where his family owned an Italian restaurant, the Miami Club. He has fond memories of his grandfather making some amazing Italian cuisine, which instilled a life-long love of cooking, creating a desire to operate his own restaurant. Today is a very exciting day for Bob and Shannon Frediani. Bob enjoyed a 40-year career in sales and marketing, working for several companies. Shannon is a hairdresser by profession and still operates the “Vineyard Salon” out of her home on the south shore of Lake Chelan. Bob and Shannon also owned a retail soccer store in Snohomish County before moving to Chelan. Bob is from Montana and Shannon grew up in Spokane but somehow, they both ended up in Everett, where they fell in love and married. They are blessed with four children and 12 grandchildren. Their family has been coming to Chelan for 36 years, spending many vacation days at Wapato Point. In 2016 Bob and Shannon sold their home in Snohomish County and moved, fulltime to Chelan. They built a beautiful home on the south shore of Lake Chelan and feel they are truly “living the life”. With their move to Chelan completed, Bob and Shannon intensified a search to find a sight to open a restaurant, the Twisted Cork & Taphouse, a name chosen several years ago. “We looked at a couple different locations in Chelan that didn’t pan out. When “The Point” became available in Manson last year we knew we had found the perfect location,” Bob said. The Twisted Cork & Taphouse has much to offer to its customers with 12 beers on tap, several local and international wines, ciders and seltzers. The menu was developed with input from Bob, Shannon and Executive Chef Jason Bills. All entrees are very interesting with Italian flavor, reminiscent of Bob’s grandfather from many years ago. The restaurant is spacious with lots of seating and big screen TV’s. The staff, which total 14, are trained in first class customer service that will make your dining experience special. The patio area is pet friendly and the entire family is welcome inside. The Twisted Cork & Taphouse is available to rent for special events and you can call ahead for takeout orders 509-888-8228. The Twisted Cork & Taphouse is located at 94 Wapato Point Parkway, Unit B in Manson. Winter hours are: Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 12 to 7 and Sunday 12 to 5. - 13th Annual Kid’s Project Day at Lake Chelan Building Supply
Lake Chelan Building Supply held their 13th Annual Kid’s Project Day on December 3, from 9:00 to 12:00 at the Manson store. “Mark Arneson and I started Kid’s Project Day 13 years ago as a fun way to give back to the kids in our community, no strings attached. It was so successful we continued on and here we are 13 years later,” said Brett La Mar, Marketing Manager for Lake Chelan Building Supply’s parent company, TAL Holdings. The event got underway with Santa arriving in a Manson firetruck driven by Fire Chief, Arnold Baker. A special chair was set up in the work area and soon children were sitting on Santa’s lap, asking for special gifts. There was a variety of Christmas treats and of course, photos with Santa, then off to the work bench. Mark Arneson worked for Lake Chelan Building Supply for 13 years and retired in 2020. Mark and his wife, Annette remain involved in the Kid’s Project Day. Mark pre-cuts boards and drills holes, making it easy for the kids to nail parts together. Annette helps with decorations and treats. “I would like to give a shout out to Ore-Pak, one of our suppliers out of Spokane. They have donated pine boards needed for the Christmas projects for the entire 13 years,” Mark said. Since retirement, Mark does all the prep work for the event at his home in Waterville. Volunteers from North Shore Bible Church helped the kids put bird houses together. The sound of hammers pounding nails was earsplitting but a happy sound. By the end of the day, over sixty bird houses were built and after an inspection from Santa, taken home as presents to place under the Christmas tree. We are truly blessed to live in such a giving community. Many Manson Chamber of Commerce businesses give back to our community in a variety of ways. Today we thank Lake Chelan Building Supply for sharing the joy of Christmas with our community. By Norm Manly Community Volunteer
- Vibe Cellars
Manson Chamber of Commerce rang in the New Year on a positive note by welcoming our first, new member of 2022. Vibe Cellars, located at 150 Wapato Way, overlooking Manson Bay, joined the Chamber January 1, 2022. Debbie Conwell, Executive Director Manson Chamber of Commerce congratulates Vibe Cellars, "We are very excited to welcome Vibe Cellars to the Manson Business Community. The Cooper family's rich winery heritage, influenced by our local wine technicians, and set in the Manson Valley landscape is sure to be a winning combination. They will definitely bring their own unique Vibe to our community. We look forward to a partnership with opportunities to market and grow their business". Vibe Cellars is owned by two generations of Coopers, identical twins Erik and Michael and their dad, George. George handles all accounting, financial decisions, vineyard contracts, helps with wine making decisions, label compliance, and much more, he lives in Des Moines, Washington. Eric is the Winemaker, manages wholesale accounts locally, and runs the tasting room. Erik grew up in Issaquah, Washington, went to college at Arizona State University and lived in Arizona for eight years. Erik moved back to Washington in 2008 and lived in Kirkland, before moving to Chelan in 2016. Michael handles wholesale accounts on the westside of the mountains and helps in the tasting room when in town. He resides in Kirkland, Washington. Vibe Cellar’s tasting room opened on September 10, 2021 and although new to our community, the family has a long history of winemaking dating back to Suza, in the Piedmont Region of Northern Italy, near the Italian/French border. Give me three reasons you like living in the Lake Chelan Valley, I asked Erik. “The people in the Valley! The beauty of the region and surrounding areas, the future of the wine industry in the Valley and community support”. When asked how the name, Vibe Cellars was chosen Erik said, “All of the Coopers love music! We also love wine! About five years ago we were thinking of names we would like for our wine label. Vibe resonated with my brother, Michael and me. Vibe connotes being down to earth about wine, enjoying time with friends, family and how wine and music are the medias that help us enjoy the things we love”. After Erik move to the Valley in 2016, he began exploring the possibilities of opening a tasting room. “I knew we didn’t have the capitol to buy a chunk of land, plant a vineyard and build a tasting/production facility. I knew that we would have to start small with a tasting room, rather than an estate. I visited our current location in downtown Manson several times over the last six years and loved the space and most importantly the patio, that has a view of Manson Bay Park and the amazing firework shows on special days. I developed a relationship with the landlord and when the space became available, we jumped at the opportunity,” Erik said. Vibe Cellars wines are made using Succession Wines production facility in Manson. Like many other local businesses, camaraderie, helpfulness and friendships have aided many new businesses get off on the right foot. Brock Lindsay, owner Succession Wines and Erik met through the Viticulture program at Washington State University in 2016. When time was right, Erik reached out to Brock and the rest is history. Production at Succession began in 2018 with 170 cases, 264 in 2020 and 364 cases produced in 2021. “Since we do not own a vineyard, we source all varietals from around Washington State. Grapes for our Sangiovese comes from Chandlers Reach Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon from Candy Mountain Vineyard, our amazing Syrah from Stillwater Creek Vineyard, the Merlot grapes are grown at Candy Mountain Vineyard and our Malbec grapes are from Chuckar Vineyard. Vibe Cellars offers cheese, crackers, almonds, salami, and fig jams to pair with your favorite wine. “We love to support the local restaurants in town, so we encourage people to bring food into our tasting room, Future plans include entertainment for the summer along with food and ice cream trucks,” Erik went on. - Silver Bell Winery
Recently I enjoyed a visit to Silver Bell Winery, Manson Chamber of Commerce’s newest member. They have a great story, like most of the family owned wineries in the Lake Chelan Valley. Located at 21 Veroske Road in Manson, at an elevation of 1,470 feet, the view of Lake Chelan and surrounding area is extraordinary. Owners Alan and Diane Holtzheimer grew up on Whidbey Island and raised their family in Skagit County. They are blessed with two adult children, Zach and Katie. Zach serves as “Tasting Room Manager” and heads up the Marketing Department. Zach attended Eastern Washington University and graduated Spring 2020 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, a good fit! Zach’s girlfriend, Savanna, works in the tasting room. When asked how the idea of owning and operating a winery started Alan said, “From 1995 to 2012 we owned an automotive towing company, a tough business with long hours and zero days off. I started making wine in our garage, it was going to be a hobby! This new hobby soon turned into a passion that could not be ignored. Diane and I made the decision to make wine as an exit strategy from the towing business and a move towards a more rewarding career.” The Holtzheimer’s opened a tasting room in La Conner in 2012. “We still had kids in school at the time and La Conner was the best choice for our tasting room and close to home. From as early as 2008 we knew we would eventually move our winery to ‘wine country’ but were not sure where that would be until we came to visit our friends, Charlie and Lacey Lybecker (owners Cairdeas Winery). After a few visits we knew this was by far the best choice to fulfill our winery dreams”, Alan went on. I asked Diane to give me three reasons why they like living in Manson. “The people – We have never felt more welcomed and more part of a community; The geography – Is there a more beautiful place with four distinct seasons? The winery climate - This already is and will continue to expand as one of the greatest places to come and enjoy the best of Washington wines.” Ground was broken for Silver Bell Winery the summer of 2018, and opened the tasting room June 25, 2021. Silver Bell wines are made on site in their production facility. Currently they have three red Bordeaux blends, a white Bordeaux, and a rosé. They set their target goal of producing 2000 cases a year but they are already seeing that will not be enough, a good problem! As a new winery they have earned several “Double Gold’s” from the Seattle Wine Awards. Currently, they offer a charcuterie plate and plan on expanding the food menu next year. Silver Bell offers two levels for their wine club members with releases in the spring and fall. Be sure to add Silver Bell Winery to your next wine tasting adventure. Stop in and say hello to Alan, Diane, Zach and Savanna. Sit back, enjoy the awe-inspiring view and amazing wines.
