- 2024 Manson Chamber Board of Directors
The Manson Chamber of Commerce, under the leadership of Executive Director Tom Tochterman, conducted its first official act of business with a Board Retreat, January 3 and 4, in the conference room of North Cascades Bank, in Chelan. Fletcher Ellingson, author of “The Practice of Feeling Good” facilitated the first day of retreat. The first item to take note of is the expansion of the Chamber’s Board from five to nine. “Given all the projects and events the Manson Chamber hosts or sponsors, it was clear that doubling the size of the board was warranted. Our community is blessed with great volunteers that get the work done. We need additional help with advance planning, both financial and logistical; the board settled on its size from a board of five members to nine,” stated Tochterman. “The retreat was very productive,” said Past President Kim Ustanik. “Fletcher helped organize our ideas and goals, charting a course for 2024, providing first-class benefits for Manson Chamber members.” “Enhancements for 2024 include a stronger focus on the value of membership to our current and future members, a frequent outreach program where each member of the Board is assigned a set of businesses to network, a fresh look at the type of municipal services our community needs, and a way forward to acquire them, and the creation of small group meetings to plan specific enhancements to strengthen our business community. It’s like the old African proverb, if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go as a group,” said Tochterman. Returning Board members include Kim Ustanik - Mountain View Lodge, Bill Swayne - Chelan Ridge Winery, Erik Cooper - Vibe Cellars and Mariah Koester – Four Lake Winery. New Board members in 2024 include Kevin Cameron – Chelan Lookout, Becca Hines – Succession Wines and Alta Cellars, and Janice Vyborny – Fresh Off the Press. Two seats remain open and appointments are expected soon. The current Manson Chamber of Commerce originally began as the Manson Development Council in 1987, then incorporated in 1992 as the Manson Merchants, changing their name to the Manson Business Association (MBA) in the early 2000’s, and again changed its name to the Manson Chamber of Commerce in 2013. It has been a fully volunteer organization until 2015 when an Executive Director was hired. The Manson Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization with the primary goal of improving both our community and business environment in Manson. - Lake Chelan Building Supply Hosts Kids Bird House Building and Santa
The 15th Annual “Kids Project Day”, hosted by Lake Chelan Building Supply got off to a slow start on December 2, because of five inches of early morning snow in Manson. Snow plows were out and by the time Santa arrived in the Manson fire truck, with lights flashing, driven by Chief Arnold Baker at 9:30, it was a different story. Kids, moms and dads were busy building birdhouses. This event was developed and put into action in 2007 by Brett LaMar and Mark Areneson to kick off the Christmas season and teach children a little about building. On average the event attracts 80 to 100 kids and this year, 90 bird houses were built. Local volunteers were on hand assisting the youngsters position the pre-cut pine boards, pound nails and give encouraging words when the nail bent or went flying! When birdhouses were completed, the youngsters brought them to Santa for inspection. Kids also had an opportunity to tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas. Santa gave each child a candy cane and photos were taken. We thank Lake Chelan Building Supply for championing this wonderful event and bring some Christmas cheer to our community. Be sure to shop local in support of great businesses like the Lake Chelan Building Supply. By Norm Manly Community Volunteer
- A Night to Remember
Last night, the Manson Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual event, “A Night to Remember,” putting several community superstars in the spotlight. The event took place at the Crosswinds Restaurant at the 12 Tribes Casino in Manson. Two of the Chamber’s finest, Mariah Koester (Marketing) and Erik Cooper (Public Relations) transformed the restaurant space into a sparkling celebration, welcoming each guest at the door. The attendees dressed to the nines. The tables and chairs dazzled in sparkly linens and chair wraps, bejeweled mirrors covering raw-edge wood rounds. Tiny twinkling trees sat on each table. The ambiance that buzzed through the room was proud, admirable, and cheery. Manson Chamber of Commerce President, Kim Ustanik, and Director, Tom Tochterman, began the evening with a warm welcome, stating their appreciation for everyone in attendance, giving recognition to the strong community we have in our small town, and even taking a moment of silence for two Manson locals we have lost this year who have not been forgotten and who are still held in our hearts. The Manson Chamber of Commerce honors two individuals and one organization at the annual Night to Remember event. The positions voted on are Volunteer of the Year, Most Inspirational of the Year, and Business/Organization of the Year. All nominations and votes are made by the people of the Manson community. For the 2023 Volunteer of the Year, Manson’s Norm Manly was chosen. Manly was recognized for this above and beyond contribultions to the Manson community, such as volunteering his time at the desk at the Manson Visitor’s Center, hosting ambassador training programs for local volunteers, his continuous search for and recruitment of new Manson volunteers, the large role he plays in the Manson Youth Fair, promotion of local public events, his help in the development of new hobby events at the Manson Grange, and his constant writing of articles for local media platforms recognizing events and hard workig businesses and indivudals in our community. And many, many more. Thank you Norm Manly for the integral role you play in our Manson community! When given the microphone, Manly humbly thanked several other people in the room for their important contributions as well. For the 2023 Most Inspirational of the Year, Manson’s Jeff Conwell was chosen. Conwell was recognized for his ever-present, contagious smile and ability to make anyone laugh, his very recognizable care for the members of the Lake Chelan community, as well as his constant optimism and support for each and every individual and business. When given a turn to speak, Conwell thanked a man in the room for being his very first customer when he opened his own Manson business in 2012, empathizing the hard work it takes and even feelings of nervousness that everyone shares working in a small town. For the 2023 Business/Organization of the Year, the North Shore Christian School was chosen. North Shore Christian School President and Co-Founder, Hillary Belton, and Vice President and Co-Founder, Kelsey Chavez were given the award. The school was recognized for its innovative and caring approach to early learning, and for holding values that are a seamless fit into those of the Manson community. When given a chance to speak, Belton and Chavez thanked everyone and gave a heartfelt speech on how they are trying hard to raise good human beings that will be the next leaders in our community. North Shore Christian school is currently on it’s second year of operation, with plans to expand one grade per year as they progress. The Manson School District was also given the opportunity to award two outstanding individuals a Blue and White Excellence Award. Manson Elementary School Principal, Ben Riippi, presented Dane Johnson, Manson Elementary School 5th grade teacher, and Margarito Barrios, Head Elementary Custodian each with an award. He had wonderful, appreciative things to say about them both, stating that Johnson is everyone’s dream teacher, and that Barrios is not only an excellent member of the school but also a wonderful cook! - Chelan Valley Housing Trust
The Chelan Valley Housing Trust (CVHT), a member of the Manson Chamber is a 501-c3 nonprofit housing developer with a mission of providing quality homes to local wage earners in the Chelan and Manson areas. Why was CVHT formed? It is a fact the Lake Chelan valley has a housing crisis. Most of our area’s workforce can no longer afford to live here. CVHT was formed to help solve this problem through the community land trust model. Here’s how it works. Chelan Valley Housing Trust, under the Community Land Trust (CLT) model, builds a new home, using one-time public or private investment, then sells the home to a local wage earners who has obtained a loan to purchase the home. The CVHT keeps the land, holding it in trust for future generations of home buyers. In return for being able to buy a home at a discounted price, the buyer agrees to “pay it forward” and sell to another income qualified local family, at a price they can afford. The CVHT manages the sale process ensuring that owners increase their wealth building capacity while also allowing another income qualified buyer to afford the home at resale. In this way the one- time investment in CVHT homes makes lasting attainability a reality. Visionaries for the Chelan Valley Housing Trust were Rachael Goldie, Tim Hollingsworth and Mike Cooney. They started the Affordable Housing Initiative in 2018 and Chelan Valley Housing Trust was incorporated in the State of Washington and received 501-c3 status. Mike Cooney served as Executive Director until December 2022 then in January 2023 Scott Meyers took over the duties of Executive Director. I recently met with Scott to learn more about this organization. Scott was born in Seattle and raised in Auburn, Washington near the Muckleshoot Indian Reservation. Scott has an undergraduate degree from Pacific Lutheran University in business administration with a concentration in finance, and a graduate degree from the University of Washington in accounting. Scott and Stacy have two sons Jackson and Archer. The Meyers created and operated Lake Chelan Cheese for over ten years, at the same time Scott coached high school football for Manson. Scott says, “I'm a serial entrepreneur but my background is in accounting and auditing, most recently I worked as a Department of Defense auditor for Deloitte & Touche.” I asked Scott his main goal as Executive Director, “I hope to provide the workers of the valley an opportunity to purchase a home and realize the American Dream. I want to see our valley function well and reduce poverty, which I believe starts with home ownership.” Who can apply? Households earning between 80%-120% area median income (AMI=$78,800) and meeting other criteria are able to be considered. So far, five units have been built and sold, with another eight units completed in 2023 and over fifty units coming in 2024-2025. For the new home buyer, this is a great opportunity to purchase a home, if you qualify. Emerson Village, featuring five townhouses was CVHT’s first project located at E. Chelan Avenue and N. Emerson Street. Several small projects are on the drawing boards with a huge, 40 plus home development scheduled a year from now on Anderson Road. Most of CVHT’s funding comes by way of private donors. They also receive some funding from the City of Chelan, Chelan County and other publicly funded organizations. “I would encourage those with surplus land to consider donating and those with extra time and a desire to help, please volunteer. One of CVHT’s greatest resources is the quality of the volunteers who have stepped up to serve on our initial Board of Directors,” Scott said. CVHT’s Board of Directors includes Jolene Baker- President, Clint Campbell-Vice President, Randy Atkins-Treasurer, Arlene Abbott- Secretary, Tim Hollingsworth, Charlie Guildner, Diane Leigh, Sharon Lukacs, Marguerite Palumbo Elspas, Dr. Jay Waszkewitz and Rachael Goldie-Housing Director. The best way to get started is by visiting CVHT’s website at https://chelanvalleyhousing.org/own/ for more information and to apply. You can contact CVHT’s office, located at 123 E. Johnson Avenue STE#1 in Chelan or contact by phone 509-508-1183 or email info@chelanvalleyhousing.org Business hours are 9am to 4pm Monday – Wednesday and by appointment Thursday and Friday 9am to 4pm. - Your Place Physical Therapy & Wellness
The Manson Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to highlight one of our newer members, “Your Place Physical Therapy and Wellness”, a new concept for home health care in the Lake Chelan valley that began operation, October 2022. The "Your Place" team is committed to helping you move better through life, where you are most comfortable at "Your Place". I recently met with owners, Lauri and Greg King to learn more about the philosophy behind this innovative approach to health care, addressing the physical, pain barriers preventing individuals from accessing and enjoying life to its fullest. Life is challenging, pain and mobility difficulties do not help. Both Lauri and Greg grew up in Southern California. They met in 1982 in the LA area and married in 1983 in Santa Barbara, California. "We have two sons. Our older son lives in Orange County, California, with his wife and three young children. Our younger son, Ian, moved to Chelan last year and now works as the Cellar Master at Amos Rome Winery,” Greg said. Before moving to Manson, Lauri and Greg lived in the Lynnwood/Edmonds area, north of Seattle. Lauri worked as a Rehab, Pediatric and Home Health Physical Therapist and Greg worked in information technology, specializing in healthcare systems integration. Lake Chelan has been a favorite vacation spot for the Kings since 1994. “For years we stayed at the Lakeshore RV Park in our Travel Trailer, or Peterson’s waterfront, and eventually purchased property in 2010. We move to Manson full time in May of 2016. We love the beauty of Lake Chelan, the many recreation opportunities, and the people,” Lauri stated. When asked how she became interested in her profession Lauri said, “I was an athlete and initially I was interested in finding a profession that involved sports. I went to my high school career center and researched Physical Therapy. I like helping people, and a volunteer position at a rehabilitation facility got me hooked!” Lauri graduated from California State University, Northridge with a bachelor's in health science in 1982, and a post baccalaureate Certification in Physical Therapy from UCLA Hospitals and Clinics in 1985. In subsequent years Lauri has obtained Board Certification in Pediatrics, certifications as a: Clinical Instructor, Vestibular Therapy, Total Joint Certification, Certified OASIS Specialist, and Executive Certification in Home Modification through the University of Southern California. When asked, what was the dream, the passion behind the decision to open her own business Lauri said, “I have been asked many times if there is a private pay option for a therapist to provide physical therapy services at home, and there have been none. "Your Place" is now able to provide physical and occupational therapy services at home. We are here to serve those that do not qualify for homebound Home Health services and who do not have adequate insurance for outpatient therapy. We are excited to offer a wellness section of our business that can tie into those seeking a healthy lifestyle and need therapy options to help them meet that goal. We are currently collaborating with Lake Chelan Health and Connie Miller at Lake Chelan Physical Therapy as part of a cohesive physical therapy presence here in the valley. I have gone into so many homes, all income and socio-economic levels, there is one thing that stands out: We are totally unprepared for aging in place, or having a disability.” In the Chelan valley, the need is great for accessible housing, however the greatest resource we have are the existing homes that simply need modifications, or adaptation, and to preplan for adaptations and modifications in the new houses being built. “Our Home Modification and Adaptation services can help decern what a client needs, how they use their home and their spaces, the modifications and adaptations that would benefit them, researching funding assistance such as grants, loans, tax deductions, and tying into the existing community supports of the Rotary Club, and specific contractors in the region to do the job,” Lauri went on. Lauri has received many positive comments from clients. “They feel like we listen, take the time needed, have the patience, and explain what we are doing, and why they are doing it. They also appreciate that we go out of our way to assist them and include them in all decisions. In addition, they appreciate that we provide resources and have the knowledge to assist them,” Lauri proudly stated. “Your Place Physical Therapy and Wellness”, is a client, location centered, Physical Therapy and Wellness LLC, offering physical and occupational services. Working where you are most comfortable, and therapy is most effective. Whether it is in your home, pool, place of work, virtually or other beneficial location we can provide effective therapy and strategies to help you achieve your goals. Lauri, and the "Your Place" team, are committed to helping you move better through life, where you are most comfortable at "Your Place". We serve your Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy needs where you live or work, and design your program to meet your needs. Andrea Menin, OTR/L- Occupational Therapist is part of the “Your Place” team. Andrea has her master’s degree in occupational therapy from the University of Washington and has her MBA as well. She has experience in pediatric and adult populations and has worked with inpatient psychiatric patients. She currently is on the board of the Lake Chelan Bach fest and volunteers with the Lake Chelan Nordic club as the membership director. Andrea says: “Occupational Therapy helps people live their most meaningful and independent lives, no matter what health conditions they live with. Every session is client focused, working specifically on what they want to accomplish.” Lauri stated, “The ”Your Place” team will increase this summer with the addition of a Physical Therapist, pediatric focused. We are very excited to bring this type of service to the valley with a strong team as well as skilled and seasoned clinicians.” To find out if “Your Place Physical Therapy and Wellness” is a good fit for your needs, contact “Your Place” at 509-557-0401 and set up a free consultation or visit their website www.yourplaceptw.com By Norm Manly Community Volunteer
- Lord & Lady Grand Opening
On Saturday, July 15th, the Manson Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony at Lord & Lady. It is located in the Manson Center, 145 Wapato Way. Lord & Lady is one of the first tenants in the Manson Center owned by Marcus and Trie Smith. “We are in the last stages of an extensive remodel to this historic, hundred year old building. Beside Lord & Lady, our tenants include Valley Barber and Cheval Cellars. Additional spaces are available to rent,” Marcus said. I asked owners, Geff Cerna and Elke Reiter to describe Lord & Lady. “We are an antique, vintage, collectables and gift store; a shop of treasures to be found, loved and enjoyed by others. We are not just another retail store, we plan to have many opportunities for community involvement and growth through various ideas and plans including scholarships, internships and community service opportunities for Manson High School students. Much growth will be happening in this small corner of Manson.” Geff and Elke are best friends and business partners. Through family connections, they have known each other for nearly 25 years. Their primary connection is the love of antiques. Both have collected and sold antiques for many years. The idea of opening a “store front” business, in addition to selling on the Internet began several years ago. With abundant storage spaces for their antiques, moving to a retail space made financial and good business sense. Geff and Elke grew up on the west side of the mountains, near the Pacific Ocean. Geff graduated from Monsanto High School with Elke attended Aberdeen High School. Both are lifelong learners. Geff just graduated from Wenatchee Valley College on June 16th with a with a degree Criminal Justice. He spent most of his working career in the lumber industry. Elke received a degree in Criminal Justice from the Wenatchee Valley College and has worked in the health care industry most of her life. Elke is blessed with eight children, all still living in Manson with three that graduated from Manson High School, and Geff boasts of being “PaPa” to 14! The reason both moved to Manson was a chance to start a new life. “We like the welcoming and beautiful environment, the lake isn’t that bad either,” Elke said. They kept busy just working, living daily lives, and preparing to open a storefront, Lord & Lady, which they did on May 10th. When asked how the name Lord & Lady came about, Elke replied, “We tossed around several ideas for names, nothing seemed to fit the aesthetic (aesthetic is used to talk about beauty or art, and people's appreciation of beautiful things). We had recently acquired notoriety land and titles in Scotland. Lord & Lady was perfect!” Lord & Lady mainly acquires their stock via estate sales. Elke added, “Treasures are found everywhere; one must just see a piece to see its beauty.” When visiting Lord & Lady you will find many unique, one of a kind treasures. Most are for sale but a few are just on display. I asked Elke and Geff to share their favorite item in the store. Geff said, “Mine is a painting signed Chezar: artist Boris Chezar born 1913 died 2008. This is an oil and sand on canvas streetscape and framed". Elke’s is one of the not for sale items. “My favorite is a 1800's Ira Bradley Illustrated Family Holy Bible, containing pictures of original family with beautiful hand writings inside,” Elke said. Lord & Lady does take some items on consignment. Drop by the store during normal business hours to learn more! - Chelan Valley Heating and Cooling
Chelan Valley Heating and Cooling joined the Manson Chamber of Commerce and open its doors June 2022. They are located at 300 South Quetilquasoon Road #5, across from the Manson Bay Market. Creating a comfortable climate is what CVHC specializes in. They are in business to help solve your problems and help you get the most out of their products and extend the life of your investments. “At Chelan Valley Heating and Cooling (CVHC) we focus on our customers, providing great products and celebrated customer service. We strive continually to offer excellent communication between our staff, suppliers and our valued customers. We are on a five-year plan to not only offer HVAC (Heating Venting Air Conditioning) but a one-stop shop, offering electrical, plumbing and gas,” said owner, Bart Pollard. Bart Pollard was born in the Ellensburg area and lived in Spokane and Bellevue and Kirkland before graduating from Lake Washington High School in 2002. Like many other graduating seniors, Bart did not have a plan for his future. He made the decision to attend Bellevue College, taking general courses. “Even after my college years, I could not zero in on a profession that excited me. The best thing that happened during my college years, I met Jill, my wife.” Bart said. In 2006, Bart was encouraged to explore a program through the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), the Puget Sound JATC program that provide opportunities to “earn while you learn,” through paid on-the-job training, along with classroom instruction. This was a five-year commitment for Bart and for the first time he felt he had found his calling. Bart began the apprenticeship program in 2007 and completed the program in 2012. During those five years Bart attended classroom instruction three months followed by three months on the job training, then repeat the process. “I totally believe the trades are a perfect fit for some students. It opened the door to my life’s work and I’m grateful,” Bart said. With nothing to tie them down, Bart, Jill and the kids packed up and moved to Kauai, Hawaii, a dream they both shared. There was plenty of electrical work available and Bart worked for several companies, increasing his knowledge of all things electrical. In 2019 they made the decision to move back stateside but didn’t want to live on the westside of the mountains. Chelan was their number one pick. The Pollard’s opened Goldie’s, a smoothie, Açaí bowl and health food café in Chelan, November 2020. Goldie’s moto is “At Goldie’s we seek to nourish your mind, body, and spirit through the food we make, the experiences we create, and the wellness inspiration we share”. Jill and her business partner, Elle Manthey own Moonpenny, a boutique next door to Goldie’s. It opened in July 2020. The idea of opening a heating and cooling business started to take form early 2021. “Chelan Valley Heating and Cooling was born out of desire to provide better customer service, create well trained and well-paid trade jobs, and develop a stronger business model. We are still a new business and still refining our processes. I believe we are building a business our employees and the community can truly be proud of and is reflected in our high standards,” Bart stated. On a personal note, from Norm Manly, our heat pump quit working December 2022. We were not having much luck with repairs until I met with Sage, one of CVHC’s technicians. He came out the same day and ordered parts and a week later with were back in operation and a very fair price, customer service at its best! - Meat in the Street
On Saturday, March 25, 2023, the smokey, delicious smell in downtown Manson lured locals, visitors and everyone in between outside of My Buddy’s Place for the seventh (it actually started nine years ago, but COVID…) annual Meat in the Street Chicken Wing extravaganza. Seven teams had grills, ovens and sous vide cookers working all morning to prepare chicken wings for the four independent judges and those lucky enough to score tickets who got to taste and enjoy. Ray Medina, owner of My Buddy’s Place, supplied each team with chicken wings that they could enhance with sauce, spices, and secret ingredients. All sizes of barbecue grills lined the street in front of My Buddy’s, including Will Poppie’s grill that had been used by his grandfather on a ship during World War II! Ray was excited about the event saying it was “A great way to kick start the spring and summer.” After hours of cooking, it was Mike Neudofer’s sauce-covered wings that earned him the judges’ first place win. The winner’s name will be engraved on a plaque hanging inside My Buddy’s Place. It was Mike’s first entry into the event! Finishing second in the judges’ poll was the team of Allison Flaten, Josh Flaten, Nick Scarsorie, and Melissa Wuerl with their honey chipotle wings. Sam Beasley, John Frolker, Cole Beazley, and Charlie Brown finished third using a new and secret recipe. Sam’s team used a grill Sam built from old fuel tanks and that is big enough to hold 750 chicken wings. The popular vote was based on voting by those lucky enough to get a ticket and a plate full of wings to taste and judge. Winning the popular vote was Sam and team. The second place vote went to the five-person Anderson team with dad Bruce Anderson, sons Russell and Marlyn, baby grandson Waylon, joined by Jim Williams. Tony Zuluaga and Cappy Peterson finished third in the popular vote category, dishing out their Thai wings. People lingered long after the winners were announced and the raffle prizes given out. The weather looked threatening for awhile but the rain stayed away, making the day memorable for all involved. By Barbara Sovde Community Volunteer
- Manson Chamber of Commerce 2023 Board of Directors
The Manson Chamber of Commerce held its first meeting of the year on January 18 at the Manson Parks building. The first order of business was the introduction of three new board members and an Executive Director. Board President, Kim Ustanik introduced Vice President Bill Swayne, Treasurer Jessica Shook, Publicity Director Erik Cooper, and Executive Director Tom Tochterman to the Community. “I would like to recognize and thank last year’s Board members, Todd Link, Jeff Conwell, Kirk Sixel, and Executive Director Debbie Conwell, for an outstanding year,” Kim said. The Manson Chamber of Commerce was established in 2015 when the Manson Business Association rebranded. This organization traces its roots back to 2007 when it was reorganized from the Manson Merchants Association, which was incorporated in 1992. Even earlier, the Manson Development Council held public meetings in the 1980’s. Records show that downtown business groups and residents came together as far back as the 1940’s when the big trees were initially cut, and the street widened. In fact, Debbie Conwell became the first Executive Director of this long-standing organization in 2018. Outside of Ms. Conwell, all activity in the community of Manson takes place by volunteers. The organization’s name may have changed over the years, but it’s always been a great group of dedicated people with goals of making Manson a better place for everyone. The Manson Chamber’s Mission statement reads, “To support and assist our community members to successfully grow both now and in the future.” Kim Ustanik, owner of Mountain View Lodge, returns to the Board as President. Kim has been on the Board for twelve years. She started in 2007, when it was the Manson Business Association. Kim states her goal as, “People”. “My community won’t be great for me and my family if it’s not great for everyone else.” I will strive to be a leader with a strong focus on communication, respect, and collaboration,” Kim stated. Tom Tochterman, Manson resident, accepted the position as Executive Director for the Manson Chamber of Commerce on January 9, 2023. His motivation for taking the job was to use his life experiences in forming the economic future and wellbeing of our town. “Much is at stake in our community for the next generation depending on how we manage growth in our town," says Tochterman. “Our employers and employees need to be supported in ways that create the most vibrant community possible.” Tochterman's goal with the chamber for 2023, includes supporting the Manson Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors in their mission and to personally meet with all Chamber members to create a unified vision of our town and the steps required to get there. Bill Swayne, owner of Chelan Ridge Winery, is the new Vice President and Membership Director of the Manson Chamber. Bill has a long history of public service and business, bringing a wealth of experience to the team. Bill says, “We need to build on what others have done and grow from there. Our goal is to pull people together.” He states, “My whole goal is to be a leader and make connections!” Jessica Shook, North Cascades Bank, Community Outreach Coordinator. “I am a Washingtonian and have lived in various cities across the state. I moved to Manson two years ago to be closer to my grandparents, and to take in the beautiful sights and tastes of the valley. In 2018, I graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelors in Hospitality Business Management and a minor in Global Studies. With intentions of working in the hotel business, I’m surprised to find myself working at North Cascades Bank as the Community Outreach Coordinator. On the weekends, I love to pour wine and have a good conversation with my other work family at Amos Rome Vineyards. I joined the Manson Chamber of Commerce because I believe it’s important to be involved in the community. My goal is to help other people come out of their shells and volunteer alongside me. My role at the bank allows me to motivate others to donate their time and money to causes we believe in throughout the community. I would like to see us be more involved with the Manson School District, because children really are our future. With the help of my fellow board members, I know that 2023 will be fantastic”, Jessica said. Kasmira (Kaz) Elliot, Board Secretary, is the Tasting Room Manager at Skagit Cellars in Manson. She has been in the wine industry for the last 16 years and was elected to the Manson Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors in November of 2021, and is currently serving her second term as the Secretary. “Being born and raised in the Lake Chelan Valley, and having generational ties to Manson, the future of our community is vital to me. My goals this year are centered around continuing to serve our members and our larger community to the best of my abilities, with a focus is on better communication. I believe everyone communicates differently, so we need to utilize all our tools including person-to-person and, one-on-one conversations, to our best advantage, with transparency and integrity. We have several new people leading our organization this year, and I’m looking forward to all the things we can accomplish together,” Kasmira said. Erik Cooper, owner of Vibe Cellars, starts his first year on the Board, serving as Publicity Director. Erik grew up in Issaquah, Washington. He attended Arizona State University from 1999-2008, graduating with a degree in Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies. Erik moved back to Washington in 2008, working in downtown Bellevue as a bartender. Erik was exposed to home winemaking through his father, who was a member of the Boeing Wine and Beer Club. Erik made a big life change and went all in on winemaking taking two certificate programs through Washington State University. One certificate in Viticulture and one certificate in Enology. Erik moved to the Chelan valley in 2016 and worked for five and a half years at Nefarious Cellars. He began making wines for Vibe Cellars in 2018 and opened the Vibe Cellars tasting room, with his father, George, and twin brother Michael, in September 2021. Vibe Cellars wines are currently produced at Succession Wines, where Erik has worked since March 2021, as their Tasting Room Manager. Erik stated, “I joined the Manson Chamber of Commerce to add my voice to the many business owners in Manson and to help facilitate the growth of our members now and in the future. I feel that you can sit on the sidelines and complain, or roll up your sleeves and do the work that needs to be done to better our community. Being on the board of directors is completely new to me and slightly intimidating but, I feel it will be very rewarding. Being part of the Manson Chamber of Commerce will allow me to develop new relationships with community members and learn more about this extraordinary community I now call home.” You can help this incredible team succeed by becoming a member of the Manson Chamber of Commerce. Your business has many benefits as a member, and you will also have input and influence. As an individual, you can become a member for just $25 a year, and there are many volunteering opportunities that are fun and rewarding. By Norm Manly Community Volunteer
